Board committee effectiveness

Have you captured the specifics of how committees need to work?

We help board committees take their yearly look at their performance.  Sometimes this is a standalone exercise - now and again it pays to take a close look at the particular aspects of committee work.  At other times it's part of the board review. And if you're opting for self-assessment, we can help you think this through.

We can help you think through different approaches to board committee evaluation including use of our web-based board evaluation service Thinking Board™ - it has special committee modules.

Whichever route you take, we'll help you look at how the committees' work impacts strategic success.  And we'll look at the particular aspects of each committees' role and responsibilities.

Audit committees
in particular have to meet a complex set of responsibilities.  If it's not to become too much of a burden, they need to make sure the processes are working well.  But, more importantly, they need a clear view of the control and assurance framework and how well it's working, well-presented information to make sure they don't miss the wood for the trees, and clarity over their role and responsibilities.  Other factors will also be at play.  When we look at audit committee effectiveness, we look at what matters in your particular situation and recommend changes that will work for you.

We also review remuneration committee effectiveness and nomination committee, taking a similar approach - making sure the processes are working well but focusing more on how the committee sees its role, goes about its work and aligns its decisions with your strategic goals.
