Transformation Oversight

Many organisations we work with are undergoing “digital transformation” with major repercussions.  What does this mean for the Board?  The scale of the strategic impact, the change to the organisation and business model, and the risks and the cost means that the transformation programme needs board-level oversight.  But we’ve all seen “transformation” go wrong: delays, changes in direction, circular reworks, busted budgets, value not delivered…  So what should a board be doing to mitigate the risks? 

In this month’s Effective Board Bulletin  we’re looking at board oversight of transformation programmes, outlining both some good practices and some pitfalls to avoid.   We pick up on lots of angles such as:

  • Is it still clear to the whole Board what the transformation programme is achieving?
  • What does the Board need to do to help make  sure the benefits are delivered and to help stop things going wrong?
  • How does the Board tackle the risks around data quality and assurance?
  • What does a Board need to see around transformation leadership and culture change?
