Our CEO Susan Stenson recently joined The Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland’s Engage Governance Podcast Series to dive into the impact of Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues in the boardroom.
In Episode 14 – Tackling ESG in the boardroom, she emphasizes the importance of linking the three ESG areas back to the overall purpose and strategy of the organisation. This enables directors to understand which issues they should focus on and how they should communicate their approach to stakeholders.
Governance lays the foundation for a strong response to ESG issues from boards of directors. And, Susan argues that if the board is honest about how it has decided its ESG priorities, its approach is much more likely to be successful.
